Businesses We Support
Captain Bob’s celebrates 23 years of serving the best steamed crabs in the Southern Pennsylvania area! Jerry Price and his wife Karen, originally from the Maryland area, took a chance,
and brought to the area, fresh steamed crabs, done the old fashioned ‘Maryland’
way. Even to this day, you can watch the live crabs being placed in the pot and
the steamed crabs unloaded into bags as they are still cooked to order!
Jerry and his wife started selling crabs in June of 1984, out of a converted
school bus located next to the Farmer’s Daughter Garden Center. Many of you will
remember Captain Bob’s being known as the blue crab bus. As the business grew and became more successful, it was time to retire the bus
and move into a barn type of building. So Captain Bob’s became known as the crab barn. The years of establishing a business were filled with hard work, commitment
to quality, and service to our customers. It was with much joy, and a wonderful
following of great customers, that Captain Bob’s eventually purchased the property
in Railroad and became finally Captain Bob’s Crab House.
Growing to become the best known crab house; serving the best steamed crabs around was truly a blessing to Jerry and Karen, and it was with sadness that
Jerry became ill in March, 2000, and passed away in August of that year. Many
friends, business acquaintances and customers shared that time of sorrow with
the family of Captain Bob’s Crabs. It was with a bittersweet joy that Captain
Bob’s was voted the Number One Crab House in York County in March, 2001; but it was a great honor and tribute to Jerry who committed
so much of his life and himself to make this business what it is today.
Knowing Jerry's wishes, his son Jason soon sold Captain Bob’s Stewartstown location
and came to Railroad to buy his father’s business. Jason had been working in the
crab business since age seven and was more than capable to carry on. Now, years
later, Captain Bob’s Crabs is still the Number One Crab House in the area. This family-owned business still holds to the family values and
the commitment to quality and service for which Captain Bob’s is famous. Jason
and wife, Laurie, are dedicated and committed to the continuing success of Captain
Bob’s Crabs. Along with fresh steamed crabs to order, Chesapeake Broasted Chicken, and the full platter menu, Jason has added fresh seafood sales and All-You-Can-Eat nights!
In 2004, Jason re-acquired his former crab house in Stewartstown, PA, thus adding
a second location in Southern York County. A picture of his father, the founder
of Captain Bob’s Crabs, graces the customer area as an honor and tribute to the
man whose desire, hard work and dedication, brought Captain Bob’s Crabs to the
area and in whose footsteps he will follow!
